In an attempt to get FarmVille players to try out their new city-building game CityVille, Zynga has released a two-part cross-promotion in FarmVille, adding a new "neighbor" to players' friends bars at the bottom of the gameplay area, in addition to adding a large billboard to one side of users' farms.
If you attempt to "visit" Sam by clicking on her picture in the neighbor bar, as though she were any other friend, you won't be taken to a new farm; instead, you're shown a large ad asking you if you'd like to check out CityVille. If you agree, CityVille simply loads in a new window. If you decline, the window will disappear and you can go back to farming as usual.
However, where Sam's presence in your friends list really doesn't affect gameplay, the billboard truly can, as it is so massive that is actually blocks the better part of three or four plots' worth of land from your view (for perspective, the picture at the top of this post is the billboard's size after zooming out three times). Since it's placed outside of your farm's limits, it doesn't technically stop you from using this portion of your land, but you won't be able to see what's behind it.
This can be rectified, however, as Zynga has added another function to clicking on Sam's picture - that being to click on a check box that will allow you to "Remove sign from farm." Make sure that you're certain about removing the sign, though, as it doesn't appear that there's any way to get it back once you do.
With most Zynga games now offering some sort of pop-up advertising CityVille, it doesn't surprise me that they've added such a large cross-promotion to FarmVille. We're just glad that you can remove it once you're done looking at it.
What do you think of the addition of the CityVille billboard to FarmVille? Did you remove it from your farm, or are you happen to see the sign when you login to your game?

CityVille: Item storage coming soon, thanks to new Warehouses
Over on the official CityVille forums, Zynga has announced that they will soon be bringing storage to CityVille via the introduction of new "Warehouses." These Warhouses will allow you to store an as-of-now undisclosed number of items, like winter holiday decorations (as an example), that may be outdated now that the holiday season has finally past.
The details concerning the Warehouses are incredibly slim. All we know at this point is that you'll be able to use Warehouses to "keep your decorations safe and sound as the year goes round!" The accompanying picture [pictured here] shows Samantha pulling a strand of lights out of a chest - perhaps this means that we'll be able to keep access to the snow and light coverings for homes and businesses even after the game heads back into the world of warmth this Spring.
Only time will tell at this point as to exactly how these Warehouses will function (we assume they will be actual "buildable" items that will take up space in your town, just as barns and the like offer Storage of Goods), but we'll make sure to bring you all of the details about them as we know more.

Plant CityVille Lettuce crops, give to Japan earthquake victims
Still haven't gotten around to donating to the Japan earthquake victims? Fret not, as Zynga has given you a second chance in CityVille with the new Lettuce crop. For every single head of "Earthquake Relief Lettuce" purchased for 8 City Cash, Zynga will donate the proceeds to Save the Children, according to CityVille Info.
The company recently ended a round of donation promotions in FarmVille, FrontierVille, Cafe World and more, raising over $1 million for Save the Children to donate to Japan. It's unsure whether this is start of another round, though we're sure Zynga could easily raise another $1 million if that were the case.
Like the Sweet Potato crop before it, these Lettuce crops grow instantly, never wither and are worth 425 Goods. Roughly, 8 City Cash amounts to $1, though you can only buy the currency in bundles of 15 for $2. Either way, every dollar counts to help alleviate the devastation in Japan, so plant a head of lettuce, will ya?

Have you donated to the Japanese earthquake victims yet? What do you think of Zynga's approach to giving to disaster victims?

CityVille Water Bottling Plant: Add to your population cap and quench your thirst at the same time!
A new Community Building is now available to add to your town in CityVille. The Water Bottling Plant is a fairly large structure, both in terms of its food print and its height, and it can be purchased from the store for 125,000 coins.
Of course, it isn't as simple as just placing the building and moving on, as you'll need to construct it with the help of friends. The building's base takes a whopping 13 whacks to complete (remember, that will take up 13 energy, which is no small amount), and after that, you'll have to hire almost as many friends to work as staff in the building - 12 friends, to be exact.
Once you've gathered enough staff members, you'll receive a boost of 1,750 citizens to your total population cap. That's a huge boost, to be sure, but you'll definitely have to earn it.
Check out the rest of our CityVille Cheats & Tips right here.
What do you think of this newest Community Building? Is it worth spending all of those energy points to build, or do you already have a high enough energy cap to last you well into the future?

CityVille Rose Garden Goals: Everything you need to know
While summer may quickly be drawing to a close, CityVille hopes to keep the summer fun alive by letting us have a place to grow beautiful flowers. Appropriately enough, this new "building" is called the Rose Garden, and you'll place it in your city when completing the first of four new goals that go along with it.
Garden State
* Place Rose Garden
* Plant a Rose in the Garden
The Rose Garden is a 4x4 structure that works similarly to the Zoo, in that you'll only be able to display three flowers on the outside of the garden, but can actually leave more of them inside. To start, you'll receive a single flower for free (that's right - this one doesn't need to be built at all after placing it in your town): a White Wild Rose. Once you look inside the building, just click on the Plant button and you'll be able to "feature" that rose as one of the three that show up on the outside. Once you finish these two (simple) steps, you'll receive 160 coins as your reward.
A Late Bloomer
* Ask friends for 3 Shovels
* Have 3 Gardens in your City
* Water your Gardens 5 Times
Gardens can be watered once every 18 hours, and yes, you can have more than one in your city. In fact, you'll need to have three before you can finish this goal. Your second and third Rose Gardens would cost 50,000 coins in the store, but luckily, you can also purchase Small Rose Gardens (a smaller version of the regular Rose Garden) for just 8,000 coins. These do count for the completion of this goal. As for the shovels, you'll be able to post a general news item to your wall asking for three. Finishing this goal gives you Sculpted Tree.
It's Showtime!
* Get 10 Rose Bushes
* Have 1 Rose Collection item from the Garden Collection
* Place one Rose Garden Gate in your city
To earn additional bushes, you'll go into your gardens (as seen above) and then click on "Ask for flowers" to ask your friends to send you some bushes. Finishing this goal gives you 32 experience points.
Comin' Up Roses
* Ask friends for 4 Vases
* Have 7 Roses Planted in your Gardens
* Have an upgraded Flower Kiosk
As it looks like each garden can only display three flowers, you'll need to have flowers in at least three Gardens to reach seven. As for updating your Flower Kiosk, you can find our guide for doing just that right here. Finishing this final goal gives you a Roses Fountain.
We'll make sure to let you know if other kinds of gardens are made available in the build menu in the future, but for now - have fun growing and displaying all of those roses!

CityVille Capital One Bank: Everything you need to know
While we already knew that Capital One would be appearing via a new bank building in CityVille, we didn't know the exact details until now. That's right - the promotion has launched in the game this evening, bringing with it the "branded business" in the form of the Capital One Bank. This bank looks like a fairly modern building, and has Capital One written along the top corner, but overall isn't overly "advertising." It costs 5,000 coins to add to your town, and must be built using four energy to build the frame.
From there, you won't be able to actually name your building, but you can operate it using Goods like other businesses. Specifically, the Bank requires 100 Goods to put into service and will reward you with 500 coins once those Goods are used. What makes this particular business special however is that it introduces "branded business mastery" to the game.
While this doesn't give us any sort of indication as to what other "branded" businesses will be coming to the game, we do know that we have just over a month to master this one. As with upgrading businesses, mastering the Capital One Bank will require you to continually stock and collect from the business whenever possible, with each round giving you a single point. Once you reach 50 points, you'll receive your reward, which we know is some form of decoration (probably a statue), but don't have the specific name as of this writing.
As for purchasing the building, it has a different time limit than that for actually earning your decorative reward. You can only purchase the Capital One Bank from the store for the next 28 days, giving you around a week to earn the decoration even after that point. Good luck!
